Creating a winning smile with porcelain veneers in Longview

If you were to ask people what they would like to change about themselves, the most frequent response would likely involve their smiles or teeth. Porcelain veneers are a great option for patients who dislike the appearance of their smiles.

Veneers are fabricated from extremely thin pieces of porcelain, which are bonded to the front of the teeth. They can change the size, shape, and shade of teeth; giving our patients the smiles of their dreams.

What issues can porcelain veneers address?

  • Crowded or gapped teeth: Patients who have minor orthodontic problems that result in spacing issues, so long as these problems do not affect the bite.
  • Discoloration: Although most extrinsic (surface) stains, respond very well to whitening treatments, intrinsic (internal) discoloration may not respond well. These stains are often the result of prescription drugs such as tetracycline or trauma to the tooth that resulted in internal bleeding.
  • Damage: Minor chips and cracks that do not reach the inner layers of the tooth may not require a dental crown, but can still have a negative effect on the aesthetics of a patent's smile. This damage can be the result of a trauma or bad habits such as eating ice or biting fingernails.

Who is a good candidate for veneers?

Anyone who is dissatisfied with the appearance of his or her smile may be a good candidate for veneers. Dr. Karen Frazer Rea will begin by giving you a through dental examination to ensure the issues with your smile can be corrected with veneers. For example if you have excessively crowded or gapped teeth that is interfering with your bite she will likely recommend orthodontics. During your initial examination, if cavities, gum disease, or other dental problems are detected it may be necessary to address these before proceeding with dental veneers. Patients who grind their teeth in their sleep (bruxism) may need a night guard to prevent damage to their veneers.
