We've always had great service and a positive experience whether we're having our teeth cleaned or getting dental work. The doctors and staff are very friendly, helpful, and we recommend them highly. We like the office and wouldn't consider making a change.

Sedation Dentistry

Patients with high anxiety about visiting the dentist may benefit from sedation dentistry offered at Rea Dental. Some patients are anxious about visiting the dentist because they have been told that a certain procedure is going to hurt, or perhaps they have a previous experience with a dentist or doctor that has hurt them. Some patients just have a fear of the unknown, the sound of a drill, injections in their mouth, or just the idea of someone being in their personal space. These are the patients that can benefit from sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry can relax and calm a patient so that they have a pleasant experience at the dentist. It can also help time go faster, lower their blood pressure, and make them not "care" as much about what is going on.

At Rea Dental, we offer a few different kinds of sedation dentistry.

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous is a gas that is used to lightly sedate patients. It is a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide. A mask is placed over the patient's nose, and the patient is instructed to breath in several times through their nose. This allows them to breath in the gas, and will sedate them quickly and easily. After the procedure is completed, they are given oxygen to breath in for approximately ten minutes in order to return back to their original state. This is the perfect option for patients who just need relatively slight sedation to relax, as well as for those who need to transport themselves to and from their appointment.

Oral Medication
At Rea Dental, we use an oral medication called Halcion in order to sedate patients. The patient will take the medication approximately 30 to 40 minutes before their appointment in the comfort of our office. Once the medication kicks in and they are sedated, we begin the procedure. They then have to be driven home by a friend or family member, and may find that they spend a few hours of the day resting. After four to six hours, they feel as though they are back to normal and can resume with their day.
