A vibrant smile with dental veneers in Longview

Who doesn't want a smile that lights up the room? Unfortunately, both lifestyle and environmental factors can affect the appearance of your teeth. Even healthy teeth can be stained and appear dingy or dull. With dental veneers, Longview residents can enjoy a dramatic enhancement to their smiles.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are crafted from ultra-thin pieces of porcelain and are adhered to the front of your natural teeth. They are used to alter shape, spacing, size, and color of the teeth. Veneers are individually crafted for each patient and they can give you a brand new smile.

The placement process

The first step to getting dental veneers is a dental exam. This will allow Dr. Karen Frazer Rea to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure. We will identify any issues like cavities or gum disease that may need to be addressed prior to placement of veneers.

Preparation of the teeth for dental veneers involves removing a paper-thin layer of enamel that is equal in size to the veneers. This allows room for placement of the veneers on existing teeth. Impressions are then taken and sent to a dental lab for custom fabrication. Because each set of veneers is unique to the individual, fabrication can take a few weeks. Once the veneers are back in our office you can schedule an appointment to have them placed.

How to care for dental veneers

Porcelain veneers can last for well over a decade with proper care. It is important to maintain a good oral care routine that involves brushing twice each day and flossing at least once per day. Try to avoid highly abrasive toothpastes. If you are unsure, we are happy to provide recommendations. It is also advised that you continue to visit us twice yearly for a professional cleaning and check-up. This allows us to clean your teeth and make sure everything still looks okay with the veneers. Avoiding habits such as chewing on hard foods and candies, grinding teeth, or biting your nails can also help keep your veneers in great shape longer.
